Impact on Student Success

Student Success

One of my most memorable student success stories was a student who began the year with a rough start. She would hardly come into class, myself and admin had to playing phone tag to try and get in contact with her and her parents. After getting in contact with her and having a parent teacher conference with admin present, we had a hard conversation that needed to happen. Since that moment, she has been coming to her appointments, turning in all of her work, being open to communication, and asking for help. I am proud to say she will be promoting to high school next month and she has come such a  long way from the beginning of the year.

Personal Growth

Over the course of this year, I have been able to grow and develop into the educator that I strive to be. This is due to the teachers around me and the students who help me see the world in a different way.

Connecting with Educators

I have been fortunate enough to work with educators not only at my site, but all over the charter through Professional Development trainings or holiday parties. Everyone comes from different backgrounds and is eager to share what they know without hesitation.

Sharing Resources

Through connecting with other educators, I have been able to learn and create new resources to implement in my own classroom. One of the biggest resources I have been able to adapt to my own room was the sticker chart that helps students track their monthly progress. My middle schoolers love when they are able to put a sticker up.

Safe Classroom Environment

A lot of the student who come to our school do so because they have experienced difficult situations at home or at school. It is because of this that I strive to make sure that my classroom is a welcome and safe environment for my students on a daily basis.

Communication

Being an Independent Studies Teacher means that a large portion of my job requires me to be in constant communication with the guardians of my students on a day to day basis. In order to be successful in my position, communication is vital to make sure that students are coming into their appointments, meeting the unit requirements and so much more.

Creativity

As mentioned previously, being an IS teacher takes a lot of creativity since it is not like your average school environment. Whether it is coming up with sticker trackers or monthly bingo, it is all about getting to know your students and what makes them motivated.

Statement from Assistant Principal:

"Over this past school year, Ms. Grecco has shown the upmost commitment to supporting and advocating for her students. She builds a rapport with her students by showing her genuine care and concern for them. She uses these relationships to find ways to help them succeed academically."
